IRC School League 2017 Middle Level


Problem Statement:

To build two manual Robots (wired or wireless) and a Programmable Robot that can assemble a car in the Assembly unit.

Problem Description:

As you must be aware that all the car manufacturing companies are adopting automation in their assembly lines. It will be paramount that the assembly lines are automated in the Tomorrowland. Your team is tasked to create three robots that can achieve the same:

ALPHA:

ALPHA is a programmable robot which will follow the spare part line track. It has a sophisticated Pick/Drop/Push/Drag mechanism so that it can carry the parts of car from store to a partdrop location near the Assembly Line.

DELTA:

Delta has a sophisticated Pick/Drop/Grab mechanism so that it can carry the process of making of cars on the assembly line.

SCARA:

Scara has a sophisticated Pick/Drop/Grab mechanism so that it can carry the process of making of cars on the assembly line.

Note: The above mechanisms are mostly for reference. You can decide on the exact mechanisms as per your liking. However, the robot should be able to fit inside the verification prop with length and width of 9 by 9 inches.

Arena

  • The length & width of the arena are 9 feet 10 inches x 9 feet 11 inches.
  • Arena is placed on the ground within a frame (made out of EVA).
  • ALPHA, SCARA and DELTA will be kept at the respective start areas (DELTA at Start Area 1, ALPHA at Start Area 2 and SCARA at Start 3).
  • All the props are of the suggestive shapes made either out of Avishkaar kits or EVA sheets only.
  • All the props are described in detail next to the arena design.

Arena Details

Arena Tasks:

Tasks for SCARA and DELTA:Making of car on Assembly Line: SCARA and DELTA are the manual robots that will first pick/drag/push/grip the chassis from its place holder location to the Engine assembly unit then to Transmission assembly and then to Body assembly area and finally for the wheel assembly i.e at finish point. Any of the robot can pick from parts drop area to spare part area.
Tasks for ALPHA: Picking up the spares from store: ALPHA is an automated spare part line follower robot that collects the spare parts from the store and coordinates with DELTA or SCARA for pick up. Sequence of the parts that needs to be taken from store depends on the students. The parts kept at the store would be four wheels and two body parts. Note: you can refer to the props area for the images of these parts.

Note: SCARA and DELTA, do not necessarily need to follow the assembly line track they can move around it as well for completion of tasks but they need to follow the sequence of assembly line. Whereas ALPHA is a programmable robot that will follow the Spare part line track only.

Prop Description

Middle Level Rules and Regulations

  • The duration of the run will be 6 minutes and there won't be any trial time provided in the run on the event day.
  • There is no restriction in the number of motors/brains used per robot.
  • Only Avishkaar kits are allowed to build these Robots.
  • A power source of 7.5 Volts and 2200 MAH current is allowed in the bots.
  • Participants can touch the Robots only when they are in the start areas and nowhere else. They can add/remove mechanisms only in start area.
  • If any of the Robot goes out of the arena, the referee would bring it back to the respective Start area and the arena props (if they were attached to the robot in some manner) to their respective start locations and no points would be awarded for them.
  • If a team is able to finish all its tasks before time, all the props will be refurbished on the arena and the team can start scoring points again. The timer would stop when the refurbishing is taking place.
